How to select the tonnage of road construction roller?

1、Select the roller according to the type of material to be pressed
1. For rock filling and compaction, large tonnage roller shall be selected to displace large blocks.
2. For the compaction of clay, a bump compaction roller shall be used.
3. For the compaction of the mixture, the vibratory roller shall be selected to mix the large and small particles evenly.
4. Heavy vibratory roller shall be used for slow compaction in deep layer, and static roller shall be used in shallow layer.

2、 Select the type of roller according to the project quality requirements
1. If you want to obtain uniform compaction density, you can choose a tire roller. The tire roller does not destroy the original viscosity of the soil during rolling, and there is good bonding performance between each layer of soil. In addition, the front wheel can swing, so the compaction is relatively uniform and there will be no false compaction.
2. If you want to compact and level the road surface, you can choose a fully driven roller.
3. In areas where the compaction capacity of the roller is not high, a flexible roller with low linear pressure can be used.
4. To achieve the compaction effect as soon as possible, a large tonnage roller can be selected to shorten the construction period.
3、 Select the roller according to the highway grade
1. For class I and II national trunk highways and special automobile roads, large vibratory rollers with high compaction capacity shall be used. For highways below class III or infrequent compaction, about 3T flexible vibratory roller shall be equipped.
2. For cement concrete pavement, tire driven tandem vibratory roller can be used.
3. For asphalt concrete pavement, full drive vibratory roller shall be selected.
4. For the bottom layer of pavement subgrade, tire roller or tire driven vibratory roller shall be selected for compaction to obtain uniform compactness.
5. Static action smooth wheel roller can be selected for pavement repair.

4、 Select the roller tonnage according to the paving thickness
1. When rolling the asphalt concrete pavement, the weight, amplitude and vibration frequency of the roller shall be selected according to the paving thickness of the mixture. Generally, a small vibratory roller of 2-6t with an amplitude of 0.35-0.60mm is used on a thin pavement with a pavement thickness of less than 60mm, so as to avoid stacking, wave and damage to aggregate.
2. Meanwhile, in order to prevent the asphalt mixture from being too cold, it shall be rolled immediately after paving. For thick layers with thickness greater than 100mm, large and medium-sized vibratory rollers with high amplitude (up to 1.0mm) and 6-10t shall be used.
